📋 Description of the exercise

Intermittent physical endurance exercise specific to soccer, combined with technical-tactical work of possession in numerical superiority. Phases of aerobic-anaerobic effort (running) alternate with moments of technical-decisional intensity (rondo structured as a real game).

🗂 Organization and development

  • 2 teams of 8 players + 2 neutrals are formed.

  • A space is delimited to develop a 5×4 possession, simulating a small game in a reduced space with offensive superiority.

  • The rondo is developed with competitive intensity, encouraging fast circulation and constant support.

  • On a coachs signal, all players must leave the round and perform physical running work around the defined space at a medium-high pace.

  • After completing the course, the players return to their positions and resume the possession game.

  • The phases of play and running are alternated in a cyclical manner, working on specific resistance with the ball.

🎯 Key Aspects / Tips

  • Monitor sustained intensity in both phases (running and possession).

  • To promote speed in the physical-technical transition, simulating real match conditions.

  • Reinforce technical quality under fatigue: passing accuracy, oriented control and decision making.

  • Ensure group cohesion and communication during the round to optimize numerical superiority.

🔁 Variants

  • Modify the duration or intensity of races (short lap, partial sprint, fartlek).

  • Change the proportion in possession (6×4, 4×3...) to adjust cognitive and technical load.

  • Include condition of minimum touches or number of passes to score points.

  • Increase the complexity of the rondo by including outside wild cards or end zone.
